How to: survive the pollen

It’s pollen season! Allergies increase the risk of accidents. Your symptoms and allergy medication may have the same effect as drivers who are impaired by alcohol.

What can you do to survive the next few weeks?

Stay indoors as much as you can.

Minimize your exposure to your allergens, so you’re not constantly triggering your body’s immune response.

Work from home.

If you have the option to do so, being in a place you feel comfortable in and reducing your time outside can make the pollen season more bearable for you.

Rest often.

Be kind to yourself. Having allergies just means that your body is sensitive, sometimes overly, to certain triggers in your environment. Rest well and give your body the time and space it needs to handle the allergy response.

Use an air purifier inside your home.

Pollen and other allergens can get into your home even if your windows and doors are sealed. Some allergens are found specifically in your home. An air purifier filters your air to remove allergens, including odor, chemical and microbes. Help your body by breathing in clean air.

Use non-drowsy medication.

Allergy medication is the go-to survival method to deal with allergies. Feeling sleepy induce similar symptoms as being alcohol-impaired. Be sure to take the right medication for your body to help you make it through your day.

Boost your immunity.

Superfoods like ginger, turmeric and diets high in vitamin C are known to boost our immune system. Talk to your physician about how you can better supplement your diet to keep your immune system strong through the flu and pollen season.

Eat well.

Eating junk food can lower your immune response. Keep strong and healthy by eating a diet high in nutritious fruits and vegetables.

Clean yourself.

Take a shower as soon as you come home and change into a fresh set of clothes you feel comfortable in to get any pollen off of you.
