Being a pedestrian in Georgia

In 2021, the number of accidents involving pedestrians rose by 77% compared to the previous year. In Georgia, pedestrians generally have the right of way when using sidewalks and crosswalks.  However, there are certain situations where pedestrians do not have the right of way, such as when a pedestrian suddenly steps into a roadway or crosses a busy roadway not at a crosswalk or pedestrian walkway.  In a traffic-heavy city like Atlanta, it’s important for both motorists and pedestrians to stay alert and exercise caution when moving throughout the city.
