Why do you need a police report?
It is required by law in Georgia to file a police report when there’s an injury, death or property damage greater than $1,000 involved in an accident. Failing to call the police could result in harsher penalties if you are at fault.
Police reports act as an official statement in the accident that details the important information:
Location of the accident (time, date & address)
Names of the parties involved
Insurance information
Description of the accident
Eyewitness statements
Pictures and/or bodycam footage
The officer's statement of the accident (if someone is deemed at fault)
Your insurance company and personal injury lawyer will be using this report as a supporting document to investigate who is at fault.
