Teen driver-related crashes

100 Deadliest Days of Summer

For most teens, the next 100 days between Memorial Day and Labor Day means no school, fun in the sun, and hanging with friends. But teens and parents should know that AAA has dubbed this period the “100 Deadliest Days of Summer” due to the sharp increase in teen driving deaths between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

In #Georgia, over 30% of fatal accidents involving teenage drivers occur during the summer months. According to #AAA, between 2011 - 2020 approximately 91 people involved in teen driver related accidents were killed yearly, with 26 of those fatalities happening between Memorial Day and Labor Day, the 100 Deadliest Days.

During the summer months, most teens are out of school and have more free time to be out on the roads. Lack of driving experience, susceptibility to driving distractions, and impaired driving are just a few of the reasons teen driving deaths increase during the summertime.

Teens and parents of teens should take time to discuss teen driving behaviors during the next few months. Establishing parameters for when your teen can be out on the roads or who your teen can drive with is a great first step parents can take to prevent risky driving habits.

If your teen or someone you know if involved in a car accident, call (404) 841-9400 to get the recovery you need and deserve.
